Oudezijds 100 provides help by means of social workers, counselling to those seeking to (re)establish an independent and responsible life, and medical care to the uninsured. Communitiy as family lifeThe community functions in this as a family and training ground in support of the professional care-givers. By cooking together, cleaning, going on holidays, and learning to pray and/or to care for children, residents learn to establish social contacts, handle money and discover their own qualities. In this way they regain self-confidence and a strong foundation for finding their place in society. Those seeking help are offered the opportunity to live with us, experience a home, and learn (again) to stand on their own feet, to make their own decisions and to assume responsibility for them. Living togetherMutual care is the basis on which we try to live. Even if someone’s life has become a complete mess, he or she can still help and be of meaning to someone else. This meaning can be found even in small things, such as cooking for each other, baby sitting or assisting with housework. Someone who has succeeded in getting his/her life back on track can in turn provide another person with the space to catch his or her breath.Oudezijds 100 is open to all those who want to live and work together, not only wanting to help others but also wanting to be helped themselves. Everyone is challenged to ask for support but also to support others. |
